NOTES

This roster is from the best information I could find. The totals for the SW14s may be in error, as some may have been retired, but still show in the IC’s computer system.

  1. 100-104 are former BN 9901, 9904, 9903, 9916 and 9914, respectively. BN 9914 is still in its BN green and white scheme and is stored outside Woodcrest Shops at Homewood, IL.
  2. 1000-1003 and 1018 were painted at EMD, 1004-1017 and 1019 were painted at VMV at Paducah. All have conventional cabs. All were received from the builder as of November 29, 1995. 1000-1019 are the first brand-new locomotives ordered since 1975.
  3. 1020-1039 are the last new locomotives ordered by the independent IC. All were assembled at Schenectady, NY. All were received by April 3, 1999. These are the last locomotives built with conventional cabs.
  4. SW13, SW14, SD20, GP10, GP11, GP40R, SD402R are IC’s model designations for the rebuilt locomotives.
  5. A program to repaint and renumber CC locomotives into the IC "Deathstar" scheme ended in the summer of 1998 after the CN merger was announced. CC GP10s were renumbered in the 8400-series and the CC GP38s (now all disposed of) were to be renumbered in the 9700-series. Just two, CC 9706 and CC 9708 were done from the CC 2000-series.
  6. Acquired from National Railway Equipment. Former CN&W 5051, GP50.
  7. Ex-IC (pre-1972) SD40.
  8. Ex-IC (pre-1972) SD40A. IC was the only road to order these extended-frame locomotives.
  9. 6034 was rebuilt from GM&O 920 after wreck. It has Dash-2 electrical standards, original SD40 frame. It also has a Paducah-Geep low nose.
  10. 6050-6070 are ex-GM&O 901-921.
  11. 6071 is ex-GM&O 950, nee EMD 434, which was the prototype SD40 built on an SD35 frame.
  12. 6072 acquired from National Railway Equipment.
  13. 6100-6160 are ex-BN 6708-6772 (except 6714, 6760, 6765 and 6767). 6100-6143 had their dynamic brakes removed, 6144-6160 retained their dynamic brakes, but are deactivated. (Some of these may have active dynamic brakes for use on foreign lines for horsepower hours payback.)
  14. 6200-6204, 6250, 6251, and 6257 are ex-6031, 6133, 6151, 6155, 6154, 6146, 6159 and 6145, respectively.
  15. SD402R were rewired to Dash-2 electrical standards by VMV at Paducah during 1995. All remaining dynamic brakes were removed.
  16. 9560-9574 are ex-GM&O 740-754, which are the last locomotives ordered by the GM&O.
  17. 9600-9639 are the first brand-new locomotives ordered by ICG in 1974. These once carried names of historical figures connected with the railroad.
  18. 6030-6033 are the last brand-new locomotives ordered by ICG in 1975. These once carried names of historical figures connected with the railroad.
  19. Stored at Woodcrest Shops at Homewood, IL.
  20. 2025-2041 are leased to National Railway Equipment for 10 years
